How to turn your fasting into feasting

Thanks to the generosity of our small groups we gave out 49 Christmas food hampers to help bring some festive cheer to families in need in Peterborough. We donated 20 of the hampers to be distributed via Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. "The client's who received Christmas hampers from Kingsgate were so very grateful and delighted. They really went to the very most in need. Thank you." Maureen Adams, Team Manager.

However more and more families are feeling the pinch of the current economic climate and over the last year we have noticed an increasing trend in the number of requests for food parcels at the Care Zone. We are currently receiving around 20 requests for a food parcel per month. With the new changes to the benefits system which are soon to happen this is likely to cause more families to fall into the poverty trap.

How can you help? To enable us to meet this increasing need we are seeking new ways to arrange a regular supply of food to the Care Zone. Throughout the year Kingsgate hold regular prayer and fasting sessions as we seek to draw closer to God. With the money or food that you will be saving during these fast sessions we would like to ask that you put these aside and donate it to the Care Zone. That way you will be helping to love your neighbour, and turn your fasting into feasting for others in need.

For storage purposes the items need to be non-perishable, so we are looking for gifts of:-

foodTins; baked beans, tomatoes, tuna fish, spaghetti hoops, soup, corned beef, fruit, custard
1Kg bags of Pasta and Rice and jars of pasta sauce
Jars of Jam or peanut butter
Tea Bags, coffee, sugar
Packet of biscuits and crisps

There is a food drop off point in the Atrium at KingsGate every Sunday, located by the Bookstall or you can drop it off at directly to the Care Zone at:

Unit B Mancetter Square
Werrington
Peterborough
PE4 6BX

We are also exploring the possibility of setting up a Foodbank facility at the Care Zone. If you are interested in helping us to develop this facility and possibly volunteer please do contact us.
