You are not an Accident, but you are Peculiar!

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)
We are a wonderful creation! God created each person with their own distinctive individual personality, gifts and abilities; we have been hand-crafted and uniquely made by the hand of God—we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. Long before the creation of the world, we existed in God’s mind. Most of us suffer with an identity crisis at some point in our life. We have insecurities about who we are and what we look like—but we need to know that we are not a nuisance or mistake. God created us so that He could love us! There are no accidents with God.
Our Journey of Destiny and Significance: God is looking for people who will reverse the negative trend of poor self esteem in society and He is asking us to show people a better way. People are crying out: Does anyone care for me? Do I have any significance? Does anyone merit what I do and who I am? Am I valuable? Am I beautiful and cherished? This journey of significance is ultimately not about us, but it is about us getting rightly aligned with God so we can influence and help others to find their true identity and purpose. Power is released when love stands up!
Before we can give a sound of security to the community, we need to be healed. God is challenging every area of our lives and revealing foundations that demonstrate insecurity. We need to know who we are—what really matters to us—what is the mixture of gifts and talents, likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses that make us uniquely us! We need to come to a place of confidence where we can say “I was born to do this—these are my passions and dreams—this is what I do well—this is the focus for me!”
Steps on this Journey 1. Need to know I am valuable: Isaiah 43:4(NIV): “Since you are precious and honoured in my sight and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and people in exchange for your life.” This is a revelation. Each one of us is of great value and worth to God. We are so valuable that God gave His precious son to redeem us. The amount of money we are willing to spend on our friends or family reflects how much we value them. We spend more on those we love most. We are of such value to God that He was willing to pay the full price for our redemption.
2. Need to know I am wanted and desired: Song of Songs 7:10 (NIV): “I belong to my lover and his desire is for me” We are not a nuisance to God. He desires us and wants to be with us. God wants your face near His and He wants time with you. Give Him the secret places and invest in intimacy with Him.
3. Need to know I can trust: Psalm 9:10(NIV): “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you”. We need to be confident that God is for us and when we step out, God is there. We have to overcome fear and learn to trust God completely.
4. Need to know our dreams are significant and essential: Titus 2:14(KJV): “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV): “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” He did not make us average but he made us distinctive. We will stand out! We will be different. We need to celebrate our diversity and the fact that our dreams, longings and motivations will be different—because we are uniquely made.
Do not yield to the urge to merge: We must not let peer pressure dictate to each one of us what is significant and what is not. We must not yield to the urge to merge but find out from God what we were made to do and then do it!
Born to dream! Each one of us was born to dream and to see beyond reality. It is time in this nation to breathe again in expectation and hope. It is time to dream the dreams of God. We must listen to the trumpet of hope that is sounding across the nation and ask God to stir the image of our big God again.
Time to stir dreams and expectations: Dreaming is part of our spiritual nature left by the fingerprints of God, our designer. When the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we will begin to dream—and when dreams begin to take shape, we will begin to fulfil the purpose God created us to do. Remember, you are NOT an accident, but you are peculiar!
